COME RIDE THE CAJA on June 11-12, 2016
50-mile Endurance Ride
30-mile Limited Distance Ride
12-mile Fun/Introductory Ride
The Caja del Rio is a 67,000 acre portion of the Santa Fe National Forest. Contiguous BLM lands add about another 15,000 acres. At the Caja, you will be riding through pinon/juniper forests and will have beautiful views of the mountains and valleys surrounding Santa Fe. We plan to make this a great ride for 50's, LD's, and fun/introductory riders. The base camp will be in the Caja del Rio portion of the Santa Fe National Forest, just West of Santa Fe.
Check in Friday, June 11th between 2–5pm. The event will take place rain or shine! Equines must be 60 months (5 years) old to enter the 50-mile ride and 48 months (4 years) old to enter the limited distance 30-mile ride. Helmets are required for juniors and highly recommended for others. You must have proof of a negative Coggins within 12 months and a health certificate current within 30 days, if you are from out of state. Coggins and health papers will be checked at the ride.
There are toilets, but no electric hookups and no dump station . There's lots of water for the horses, but please bring plenty of people water!
We are planning for the Friday evening ride meeting to begin after check-in is finished, around 5:30pm. Dinner will follow the meeting. The Saturday ride meeting will begin after all riders have returned to base camp, around 6:30pm. Dinner and awards will follow the ride meeting. Sunday dinner will also begin after all riders have returned to base camp, around 6:30pm and awards will follow. Dinner will be provided for all riders Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is available to non-riders for $10.00. Volunteers will be provided breakfast snack, lunch and dinner.
PICTURES WILL BE AVAILABLE:
For the 4th year, photographers Doug Speer and Sherilee Vogt-Speer are very generously donating their time, their materials, and their expertise to photograph riders and horses. A slide show of pictures will be available to watch before the end of the weekend.
